Irish Presidency of the EU Council Working Party on Statistics

Welcome to the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union which commences on the 1ˢᵗ of July 2026.
The Irish Presidency Team at Central Statistics Office will lead the EU Council Working Party on Statistics. Our term marks the start of a new Trio with Lithuania taking over from January to July 2027 with Greece completing the term from July to December 2027.
Our plans will build on the work of previous Presidencies and aim to close pending legislative files, including the proposals for Regulations on Commercial Real Estate Indicators (CREI) and Fisheries and Aquaculture Statistics (EFAS).
The Presidency Trio will open files on European system of National and Regional Accounts, Balance of Payments, and Integrated Farm Statistics. The programme is flexible and will seek to identify opportunities that will enhance effectiveness and relevance of the European Statistical System.
To this end, the Irish Presidency will hold a High-Level Meeting in September 2026 on the topic of “Simplification and the European Statistical System”.
We are committed to communicating with the public through our website which will be regularly updated throughout the Presidency to provide current information on statistical developments.
